Victory for Individuals with Print Disabilities: Court Decision in Authors Guild, Inc. v. HathiTrust
On June 10, 2014, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit held in Authors Guild, Inc. v. HathiTrust that the libraries that are members of the HathiTrust Digital Library can “create a full-text searchable database of copyrighted works and provide those works in formats accessible to those with disabilities.” As argued for in an amicus brief submitted by Jo Anne Simon P.C. on behalf of AHEAD (Association on Higher Education and Disability) and eleven other individuals and disability advocacy organizations, this decision “preserve[s] and promote[s] equal educational and research opportunities for students and scholars with print disabilities.”
